If you like me think your hi-fi or home theater system’s subwoofer is pretty hot things, prepare to feel very small. The new subwoofer from the German sound company Ascendo Immersive Audio is probably 10 times larger than yours and 12 times larger than min.
My idea of a big subwoofer is 15 inches, as the biggest kef cube: My Own Cambridge Audio Sub is a perfectly decent eight inch and it delivers more than enough boom to fill my room. But Ascendo’s new sub is so large that it will fill any room before you turn it on. It is a huge 100 inch in diameter, making it over 7,800 square meters of surface area.

Who should buy a 100-inch sub?
The new 100 sub is designed for a very specific kind of customer: the kind that looked at the previous model, 80 SUB (yes. It was 80 inches), and thought “oh, it’s too small and quiet”. The driver alone weighs over 570 kg (260 kg).
The 100 sub-movements move as much air as 40 normal 18-inch subwoofers, the company says, and there is also a slightly smaller 64-inch model. “These two new subwoofers are the largest in the world for home theater and are incredibly powerful, efficient and fast,” says Ascendos Geoffrey Heinzel.
Despite the ridiculous power, these are not designed to be total Guttes. There is a lower curve than the previous 80-inch model for improved performance, optimized Quad-Suspension for greater movement and “advanced” materials for noise-free operation. Cabinets have also been redesigned with a reported lift to the low end frequency response and improved attenuation to reduce resonance.
The price is fixed on “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” area and is not officially announced, but the 80 sub was far into six numbers.
