Los Angeles Dodgers Slugger Shohei Ohtani played catch Tuesday in a continuation of his throwing program in his comeback from elbow surgery.

Ohtani went with Dodgers Sunday, after his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, gave birth to the couple’s first child in southern California. The two-way star went 0-for-3 with a trip in Dodgers’ 1-0 win in Texas.

After an off-day, 30-year-old Ohtani threw in Outfield at Wrigley Field before the opener of a two-game set against Chicago Cubs. He is expected to have a light Bullpen session on Wednesday and a “full-blown bullp” on Saturday, said manager Dave Roberts.

“I still don’t know what the next step is,” Roberts said, “and I think when he first starts to turn against men, it will start to be more pronounced. But right now he’s still in the state of just throwing bullpens, and he still hasn’t thrown sliders yet.”

Ohtani has not looked up in a major league match since August 23, 2023 for Los Angeles Angels. He is recovering from the right elbow operation on September 19, 2023. He paused his pitching work after a haug session on February 25 to prepare for opening day as a hitter.

The reigning NL MVP, which signed a $ 700 million, 10-year contract with Dodgers in December 2023, is fighting .277 with six homers and eight RBIs entering the series in Chicago.

Left -hander Blake Snell also played catch on Tuesday, and Roberts said it was going well. Snell is on the 15-day wounded list due to shoulder inflammation.

Tyler Glasnow stays on the field to start Sunday at home against Pittsburgh. The 31-year-old right-handed left Sunday’s victory against Rangers due to cramps under the lower leg.

“I haven’t seen glass, but from the training staff they said there are no more cramps,” Roberts said. “When we traveled here to Chicago, he was doing well.”
