- A list of iPhones that support iOS 19 – which may be called iOS 26 – has leaked
- IPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone Xs Max can miss
- Apple reveals the software next week
Apple is scheduled to tell us all about its magnificent plans for iOS 19 – which can be redirected as iOS 26 – next week, and a new rumor suggests that this year’s software update will leave some iPhone models.
According to a “very reliable” source in contact with macumors, the oldest handsets that support iOS 19, the iPhone 11 models and iPhone SE 2. These phones launched in September 2019 and April 2020 respectively.
As for phones that can run iOS 18 but apparently can’t run its successor, we say goodbye to iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. These three iPhones were all announced by Apple in September 2018.
Remember that none of this is confirmed by Apple yet. It is also worth noting that even though the older phones miss iOS 26, they can still get security updates for some time – for example, the iPhone 8 recently got an update in March 2025, for example.
Here’s what’s coming
In addition to rebrand from iOS 19 to iOS 26, we have heard a lot of rumors about the next software update for iPhone. The interface apparently receives quite a revision, which is actually hinted at in Apple’s own WWDC 2025 invites.
A number of new features are expected to appear across messages, music and notes, including automatic translations for messages in a foreign language, and animated album art for your playlists that appear on the lock screen.
There have also been leaks about a dedicated game hub that runs over iPhones and other Apple devices, as well as the introduction of multiple AI voting assistants working with iOS -including maybe Google Gemini.
Everyone will be revealed next Monday, June 9 at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC): The annual software exhibition window for iOS, MacOS, iPados and more. We cover the event and all messages live, and if you want to follow along, check out our guide on how to see the event.
