Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly rejected what he called “irresponsible” and “manufactured” fake news circulating on social media, which mistakenly attributed to a senior Iranian general a claim that Pakistan would start a nuclear strike on Israel in return for any attack on Iran.

In a speech in the Senate on Monday, Dar condemned the spread of false information in the wake of rising regional tensions and called for restraint in the midst of escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

“Pakistan has not made such a statement. This is an extremely irresponsible and made claim,” he said. He warned that “war is no joke” and confirmed that the country’s nuclear and missile programs are pure for self -defense.

“Our nuclear and missile program are for our own protection,” he said to legislators. “We said back in 1998 that our nuclear weapons are for defense and regional peace. We have not signed NPT because it is necessary to maintain credible deterrence for our security.”

DPM also criticized the circulation of fake news on social media, citing an artificial intelligence -generated video that is mistakenly attributed to US President Donald Trump and disinformation of Pakistan’s nuclear attitude.

“There was a video clip about Trump that later turned out to be AI-generated,” he said. “Since June 13, many fake stories have emerged. Netanyahus interviews circulated is from 2011. This is not children’s play – this is a serious war. We must trade with caution.”

He also clarified that Pakistan had played a constructive diplomatic role. “We got involved during the UN Security Council session. Iran appreciated the role of Pakistan,” Dar said. “Foreign ministers in Oman and Iran kept me informed. Iran’s Foreign Minister remained in constant contact during conversations,” he added.
