The Duchess of Edinburgh visited Royal Hospital, where she joined Chelsea pensioners for their weekly bingo night, according to a statement from the royal family on Wednesday.
Duchess Sophie joined a group of 80 retirees in three rounds of their weekly bingo night.
“Tuesday night Bingo at Chelsea Pensions Club promotes camera and is a valued weekly activity that helps relieve loneliness, promotes mental well -being and strengthens the feeling of society within the historical institution,” the statement states.
It added, “Her Royal Highness spoke with Ted Fell, 86, of the Royal Artillery, who introduced her to her colleagues with bingo players before the matches began.”
“The club, which has a licensed bar, a gaming room and a quiet reading room, acts as the social hub of the Royal Hospital, home to nearly 300 Chelsea pensioners who previously served in the British army.”
