HAAG: A guest at a Dutch hotel by the sea got more than she negotiated when she opened her room to find a large gray seal, like kipping on the floor.

Astonished staff called an animal association in Vlissingen, the southern Netherlands, who said it was an unusual call, although they often get biting requests.

“It was a strange sight, the guests who stood nervous outside, and the completely cooled seal that snoozed inside,” the association said on its Facebook page complete with pictures.

The seal had become “quite grumpy because of its disturbed beauty sleep” and the Animal Rescue team placed it in a special basket to move it to a more usual habitat by the beach, the group added.

Despite their relatively quiet appearance, seals can become aggressive and bite if provided, the association warned.

Hotel employee Valentijn Lady told local media OMBOEP ZEELAND“Just when you think you’ve seen everything, something like this is happening”.

The lady said the woman had no tough feelings after regaining her room.

“She found it all a fascinating experience. It’s also her birthday today, so she thought it was a lovely gift.”
