Laurin Talese was tapped to sing “lift every voice and sing” Thursday night ahead of the first game of the NFL season between Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
Since summer with unrest over George Floyd’s death, NFL has enabled teams to get artists to sing the song, known as Black National Anthem. The song has appeared in the season opening matchups as well as the Super Bowls before kickoffs.

The NBC broadcast also showed one of the messages in the final zone of Lincoln Financial Field. The message read, “It takes us all.”
To play the song again before the start of the NFL season triggered burning reactions to social media.

Talese received a standing ovation from those inside the stadium at the time.
She told the Eagles’ website that it was her first time in Lincoln Financial Field, but has become a big fan of the team over the years.

“I feel so excited and honored,” she said. “I’m really excited to see how it will feel. … I love to feel the pulse of the city, but I have never been in a game. So this is my entrance. This is my turn to real life Eagles Fandom and that I am really able to be part of it that, what better way? It’s kind of crazy, actually.”
