Eagles ‘tush push’ ought to have been illegal 3 years ago, says an NFL trainer

One of Philadelphia Eagles’ Keys for Success can soon be a thing in the past, and it sounds like there is some excitement over the opportunity.

Green Bay Packers recently suggested a rule to ban Tush-Push, which has been synonymous with Eagles beating the Green Bay in the Wild-Card round on the way to a Super Bowl championship.

And while it is often imitated, it is never duplicated. Eagles have had a success rate of well over 90% with the game in the last three years.

There is an argument as to whether the play should be allowed, as players who technically cannot help a ball screens to move down the field.

An NFC head trainer welcomes Green Bay’s proposal.

“It should have been illegal three years ago,” said Atlanta Falcon’s head coach Raheem Morris Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “No, tush -push game, I’ve never been a big fan. There’s no other game in our game where you can definitely get behind someone and push them, pull them off, do something.”

Packer’s CEO Mark Murphy recently said the play is “almost an automatically first down on plays on a farm or smaller,” and it takes “no skill.”

Buffalo Bill’s main coach Sean McDermott quoted injury risks with the play Monday.

“It’s just the acting for me – or the way the techniques used with that game for me – have been potentially contrary to players’ health and safety,” he said. “Again, you have to go back in justice to the injury data on the play, but I just think the optics for what I’m not in love with.”

The birds used the piece well in their advantage. Jalen Hurts scored the first touchdown of the Super Bowl with it in a 40-22 win over Kansas City Chiefs.

Last offseason there was some heated debate about whether the play should remain in the game, but it never came to a vote.

League owners had to vote to get the game removed, which would be done in March.
