An earthquake of low intensity that measured 3.1 on the Richter scale hit Balochistan’s Kalat District in the early hours on Monday, triggering a short panic among the residents but causing no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

According to the Seismic Center of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), episent of the earthquake was located 8 kilometers southeast of the Kalat district.

Kalat experienced the shaking two days after an earthquake of 4.9 in size hit Balochistan’s coastal town of Gwadar and its surrounding areas.

The National Seismic Monitoring Center said the episents of the earthquake were 40 kilometers away from the southwestern Pasni. Its depth was 14 kilometers, it added.

Damage or injuries were not reported, but the residents paniced after the shaking.

Earlier this month, Karachi experienced unusual seismic activity since June 1, with 36 smaller earthquakes registered due to the activation of the Landhi error line, according to the weather department.

The latest shaking, with a size of 2.6 and a depth of 10 kilometers, hit two days ago at 1 p.m. 1:45 with his episent located 8 km southeast of Malir.

Just one day before these earthquakes, Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, also rattled by a mild earthquake of mild size.

The seismological center reported that the shaking originated from Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush mountain chain with a depth of 211 km.

These recent events follow a series of previous earthquakes that have affected different parts of Pakistan.

Earthquake is a common event in Pakistan, a country located on the active border of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The continuous push of the Indian record into the Eurasian record makes large parts of South Asia seismically active.
