The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed three political parties from its list of registered entities due to their failure to conduct intra-party elections as required by law.
According to an official notification, Pakistan National Party (PNP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Nizam (PTN) have been delisted for not holding elections within the prescribed time frame.
The move comes as part of the ECP’s efforts to enforce the Political Parties Ordinance of 2002, which mandates that all political parties in Pakistan conduct regular intra-party elections to ensure democratic practice and accountability.
In a contrasting development, the ECP has recognized Tehreek-e-Suba Hazara Pakistan (TSHP) as a registered political party following the successful completion of its internal party elections in November 2024.
Additionally, the ECP last week also inducted Awaam Pakistan (AP) after the party held its June 2024 internal elections.
Awaam Pakistan, formed by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, will be headed by Abbasi as President and Ismail as Secretary General. Both leaders had previously been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) but left the party following disagreements with its leadership.
