Islamabad: The Election Commission in Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday disqualified a member of the National Assembly Jamshed Dasti to keep false degree.

The development comes when the electoral body approved two petitions, including a reference filed by the National Assembly’s speeches, against Dasti sought his disqualification.

In May, the Commission had decided to obtain the educational certificates for Member National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti verified by Karachi Education Board.

Dasti, elected from NA-175, Muzaffargarh, at the last parliamentary elections, faced cases under Article 62, 63, sections 4, 9, 137 of the Electoral Act, 2017.

A three-member ECP bench led by ECP member (SINDH) Nisar Durrani had heard the petition from Ameer Akbar about assets and obligations against MNA Dasti.

The ECP’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) member asked if MNA had any property that the Election Commission had not been informed about which the other lawyer’s lawyer took the position of Dasti written FA qualification (middle degree) on his nomination papers, while he had not completed his matriculation, The news reported.

He continued to claim that the Bahawalpur university had declared Dastis BA and FA certificates fake. “He claimed to have completed his matriculation from the Bahawalpur board, but it is also false.”

The petitioner’s lawyer also said that Dasti had just submitted his matriculation certificate from Karachi Board in response, as the KP member said the ECP had the power to disqualify him.
