Given the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats in Pakistan’s regulatory bodies, the Election Commission in Pakistan (ECP) is set to hold an important meeting today (Monday) to discuss the implementation of the decision of the supreme court.
Sources confirm that the meeting will focus on formulating a strategy for implementing the court’s order and reviewing the legal decision in detail, reported Express news.
One of the most important issues on the agenda will be the restoration of Peshawar High Court’s decision.
The meeting will be chairman of the top election commissioner and will include all members of the Commission as well as the legal team for consultations.
It is expected that the official review of the candidates’ victories will be issued after the meeting later today.
In addition, the Supreme Court’s decision on July 12 will also be reviewed, especially with future decisions regarding the Sunni Ite Council.

Previously, the ECP had rejected what it called “baseless propaganda”, which was circulated in certain media circles in response to renewed criticism according to the Point Court’s constitutional bench’s decision on reserved seats.
Criticism came after the constitutional bench rejected Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI)-delivered Sunni Itthad Council’s (SIC) review petition regarding the allocation of reserved seats.
This decision allows the ruling coalition, led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), to emerge as the largest party and to consolidate a two-third majority in the National Assembly.
In the midst of changing political dynamics, the ECP has repeated its constitutional role and defense the legality of its decisions and said that the claims were in violation of the facts and intended to mislead the public.
It was a victory for the reigning parties on the legal front, as the SC Constitution Bench has set aside the Appex Court’s judgment of July 12, 2024, which had resurrected PTI as a parliamentary party and allowed it to get reserved seats in legislators.

“For detailed reasons to be recorded later, subject to reinforcement or lighting, as can be considered appropriate, by a majority of 7, all civilian reviews are allowed, and the intended majority judgment dated 12.07.2024 has been set aside.
“As a consequence, civil appeal no. 33 of 2024 and 334 of 2024 filed by SIC [Sunni Ittehad Council] is dismissed and the judgment set aside by Peshawar High Court (PHC) is restored, ”said a short order issued by 10 members CB led by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
With the exception of justice Khan, the majority order was signed by Justice Musarrat Hilali, Justice Naeem Akhter Afghan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi.
