Efforts on Afghan ties that go nowhere

Islamabad ‘:

Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reset the tape with Afghanistan have met a dead end, as brewing differences in the Taliban have made it difficult for Islamabad to have a meaningful commitment with Kabul.

Sources who know the development told The Express Pakinomist on Tuesday said that at this point there are hardly any contacts between the two countries. One of the main reasons is that the situation in power corridors in Afghanistan is “messy” and Pakistan is not sure who to talk to in Kabul.

Reports of differences within the Taliban management have completed rounds for months. Although Taliban refused such speculation, sources in Islamabad said “Everything is not good” within the militant group that seized power in the neighboring country in August 2021.

It is believed that there is a power struggle that takes place between the Kandhari group, led by the Taliban chief Hibatullah Akhundzada and Haqqani network, led by Sirajuddin Haqqani.

The temporary Afghan Interior Minister traveled to UAE and Saudi -Arabia last month. Since then, however, there has been no news about his return to the country. Similarly, the Afghan deputy Foreign Minister Sher Abbas Stanikzai has been missing from the stage for many weeks.

Stanikzai had criticized the Taliban Chef’s decree, which banned girls education and also called on Afghans not to follow him blindly. There were reports that the Taliban chief ordered his arrest, but that he fled the country.

To remove the impression, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Mullah Yaqoob last week was seen together at an event in Kabul. However, Sirajuddin Haqqani and Stanikzai were visible by their absence.

Sources here said there were several factors behind the growing gap among the Taliban rows. The most important stumbling point is the question of a ban on girls education and commitment to the outside world.

Taliban Amir is firmly by the fact that he would not lift the ban on girls education, while moderating fractions, including the Haqqani network lawyer policies that relate to the concerns of the international community.

President Donald Trump’s steps to suspend all forms of humanitarian and foreign aid also put together the problem for the Afghan government. Before the suspension, Afghanistan received $ 60 million a week under humanitarian assistance.

Since the return of the Taliban in August 2021, the United States pumped at $ 3.5 billion in Afghanistan. It helped the Taliban regime to keep the Afghan economy fluid. But the suspension of funding has now put them in a difficult situation.

The Taliban government is struggling to manage the exchange rate and pay wages to the employees. Moderate fractions in the Taliban stranger accused the hardlines of the mess.
