Eight PTI MPAs step down from Punjab Assembly -Committee

The wave of resignation from a standing selection of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf legislators continues according to directives from party founder Imran Khan, as eight PTI members have now withdrawn from their committee roles in the Punjab assembly.

According to Express News, Hafiz Farhat Abbas became the latest to go down on Friday and withdrew from the Standing Committee on Environment and Domestic Affairs.

In a related development, MPA Ahmar Rasheed Bhatti gave his resignation from several Punjab assembly committees and pulled down from the panels of energy, law enforcement and legislation.

He also withdrew from the committees on planning and development, labor and human resource as well as business advisory and ethics committees. His resignation has been submitted to the speaker office.

His departure brings the total number of PTI legislators who have submitted their committee positions to eight. Previously, other PTI members, including Sana Karimi, Rana Shehbaz, Owais Wark, Malik Mumtaz Farukh Javed Moon and Sheikh IMTIAZ, also withdrawn from their respective selection.

The resignation follows Imran Khan’s instructions to all PTI legislators to withdraw from the standing selection of the Punjab assembly.

Confirmation of the Directive on Thursday, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the party currently has chairmanship of 14 committees and that Khan has issued “clear instructions for a collective withdrawal.”

Opposition leader in the Punjab assembly Moeen Riaz Qureshi had also instructed PTI members to submit their resignation in accordance with the party’s founder’s decision.
