Quetta:
At least eight people were killed and several others were injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with an oil-loaded vehicle on the CPEC route in Balochistan’s Panjgur district on Saturday and triggered a massive fire that shrouded both vehicles.
Police sources said the accident was caused by speed.
The original reports confirmed five deaths, but the toll rose to six after one of the wounded bent under burns before reaching the hospital. Later, two more victims died of their injuries and brought the total fatalities to eight.
Rescue officials told The Express Pakinomist that organs and the wounded were immediately switched to Panjgur Teaching Hospital, where the treatment of the wounded was underway. The rescue operation was later completed.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and identified faster as the preliminary case.
The tragedy has once again exposed the gloomy state of road safety in Balochistan, where poor road infrastructure and unsuitable vehicle often result in deadly accidents.
Local residents and rights groups have renewed calls for stricter security measures along the CPEC route.
Meanwhile, rescue officials confirmed that four people were killed in Khnuzai when a vehicle overturned after losing control.
