Elijah Wood, best known for his iconic portrayal of Frodo Baggins in Lord of the Rings Trilogy, has revealed that his earnings from the Blockbuster franchise were far from what fans might expect.
While talking at the 2025 Texas Film Awards, the 44-year-old actor reflected on the modest compensation he and his fellow crew members received, noting that all three films were recorded under a single contract.
According to Business InsiderWood shared, “Because we didn’t make a movie and then renegotiate a contract for the next one, it wasn’t the kind of lucrative scenario that you could easily rest for the rest of your life.”
In addition, he credited director Peter Jackson by taking “a real gamble” by choosing to film the trilogy at once – a decision that would ultimately pay off with the films earning almost $ 3 billion in the global ticket office against a $ 281 million budget.
Despite the modest wages, Wood emphasized the lasting effect of being part of the franchise, “The advantage of it was that we also signed up for something that would become part of our lives forever,” according to Daily Mail.
While Co-Stars Sean Astin and Orlando Bloom have previously revealed, they earned that they earned about $ 250,000 and $ 175,000 for their roles in all three films, Wood refused to confirm his own figure and simply said that the amount “doesn’t matter” and calls the experience “an honor.”
Earlier this year, the actor also confirmed that he had married long-time partner and film producer Mette-Marie Kongsved in an intimate New Year’s Eve in Sweden according to the marketing market.
The couple has together since 2018 two children, although they have kept their names private.
Meanwhile Lord of the Rings Legacy is set to continue with Warner Bros.
