American tennis Pro Jessica Pegula led a fantastic and early exit from Wimbledon in the first round on Tuesday when she was defeated in less than an hour of 116th-ranked Italian, Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Cocciaretto, 24, managed to pull his first first win ever of at Wimbledon To easily defeat pegula in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

“To play here in such an incredible stadium and such an incredible tournament, it’s a dream come true for me. I was so pumped to play Wimbledon this year,” Cocciaretto said during his on-Court interview after the match.

“I played a really good master. She’s an incredible player. She’s a good example for us.”
Pegula’s loss comes a few days after she defeated Iga Swatek In straight sets on the grass to win the bad Homburg open in Germany. Unlike in his match against the five-time grand slam champion, Pegula fought against Cocciaretto’s aggressive games, hit only five winners and made 24 unexplated mistakes.

“For this to happen today, it’s disappointing. I don’t know how else to say it,” she said after the match. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to turn around something around. But at the same time, I feel she was playing kind of crazy. Hats to her. Kudos to her for having played at a high level that I couldn’t match it today.”
Pegula’s Uflaks in the first round, which saw that six of her first seven appearances at Majors resulted in a first round loss, ended in 2020 when she last lost to top-ranked women’s pro aryna sabalenka on The French Open.

Tuesday’s match is reminiscent of the early matches.
“This is certainly the worst result I’ve had all year,” Pegula said.
