Employment abroad rises by 19%: report

ISLAMABAD:

The Ministry of Finance published its Monthly Economic Update and Outlook Report, in which it appears that the number of people going abroad to find employment has increased by 19 per cent.

According to the report, 75,663 workers registered for overseas employment in January, compared with 63,559 in January last year. The report says the outlook for economic growth has improved, citing increased macroeconomic stability and reduced inflationary pressures.

The Finance Ministry also stated that a Ramazan relief package of Rs 38 billion was given to the public. Inflation is expected to remain between 6 and 7 per cent. in this month. In January 2026, inflation was recorded at 5.8 per cent.

However, geopolitical uncertainty and fluctuations in global commodity prices have been identified as potential risks. It said the balance between government revenue and expenditure has improved. The current account deficit remains under control and the rupee has remained stable.

IT exports increased and access to cheaper financing has facilitated business activity. Large-scale manufacturing registered a 4.8 percent improvement over the past six months.

During the first seven months of the fiscal year, remittances rose 11.3 percent, reaching $23.2 billion from July to January. In the same period, exports fell by 5.5 percent to 8.3 billion dollars.
