While less than six months have passed since the presidential election in 2024, it seems that Sports Media Star Stephen A. Smith is already looking forward to 2028.
Smith, who recently signed a lucrative contract extension with ESPN, often covers political conversations on his podcast, “The Stephen A. Smith Show.”
During a February edition of his podcast, Smith approached the idea of launching a bid for president for a few years from now.

But in April, the long -time “first Take” recently hosted events to change course.

“Time to stop messing around. Life is great. Especially by Espn/Disney. Had the thought of being a politician. But tired of this mess. So I officially leave all doors open,” Smith wrote on x on April 7th.

Chiney Ogwumike, who spent four seasons with Los Angeles Sparks and is currently working on ESPN, highlighted a particular skill that could work in Smith’s benefit if he eventually had to drive to political office.
“I think he would be the first to say he wouldn’t necessarily drive, but let me tell you this: I hope he does the debate,” ESPN analyst told the Front Office sports. “I think he will more than keep his own. There is no one who is more prepared for a presidential debate format than Stephen A., in my opinion.”

During the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas in early April, Smith made it clear that his decision to drive to the office would eventually be related to the nation’s state for a year or two, and whether the data at that time would indicate that he had “a legitimate shot to win.”
“If it comes at the end of 2026, 2027, where I look at this country and think it is an absolute mess and there is legitimate reason to believe – whether through the investigation committee or something else – that I actually have a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States. I will not exclude it and I do not play.”
President Donald Trump recently convened Newsnation City Hall on Wednesday when Smith appeared on the network. During the call, Trump expressed support for a potential presidential bid from Smith and said the TV station is “a good guy.”
“Stephen A., he’s a good guy,” Trump said. “He is a smart guy. I love to see him. He has good entertainment skills, which is very important. People see him.
“You know many of these Democrats I see, I say, ‘They have no chance.’ I’ve been pretty good at choosing people and picking candidates.
