Just a few years ago, Arch Manning was one of the most sought -after high school recruits in the nation. In the end, he decided to take his potential and high -profile last name to Austin.
When Quinn Ewers declared the NFL draft, it opened the door to staff to move into the starter’s role for Texas Longhorns in 2025.
As spring games around the country get started, ESPN host and commentator received Davis a bold prediction of the role Manning could play as he takes the next step in his college career.

As the season gets closer, the hype around Manning is bound to escalate. Davis suggested that Manning could be “the ultimate villain” because some fans will end up appreciating him even more, while others could experience more feelings of resentment.

“It’s unfortunate. Because of the attention he wants to get, he will become a fan favorite of them outside Texas. And (for) others outside Texas, he will become the ultimate villain, and I don’t just mean Oklahoma People,” Davis explained during a recent edition of “College Gameday Podcast.”

Davis then compared the Manning Hype train with what often arises when a new movie or TV show becomes popular and is well received by the public, but inevitably some will oppose it or try to discredit it all together.
“That’s what will happen to Arch,” Davis predicted.

Manning performed in 10 games last season, including two, he started instead of a wounded Ewers.
The young quarterback ended the 2024 season with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
Texas defeated Clemson in the first round of College Football Playoff, before an exciting overtime victory over Arizona State in the quarterfinals. The possible national champion Ohio State Buckeyes Removed Longhorns from playoff competition in January.
Texas opens the 2025 season against Buckeyes in Columbus August 30.
