Ethereum developers set May 7 as the target date for the long-awaited pectra upgrade on Thursday and begins the countdown for Blockchain’s biggest changes since March 2024.
Pectra contains a number of improvements aimed at making Ethereum more user -friendly and efficient. Such an improvement is to add “smart contract” features to wallets, which can make them easier to use and restore.
The decision to plan Pectra was made during a call between Ethereum’s core developers – just over a week after the upgrade went live on the Hood test network without any hiccups. Pectra’s test on the hood was the third and final dry drive of the upgrade. Two previous tests had bugs, which led to developers to delay the upgrade of Ethereum’s mainnet.
Pectra consists of 11 main code changes, or “Ethereum Improvement Prosals” (EIPS), which will be sent at once. Together, the features aim to improve the effort experience, introduce wallet functions and update the overall network.
One of the most important pectra changes that will benefit Ethereum validators is EIP-7251, which will increase the amount of ETH, which can be included from 32 to 2,048. The change is intended to relieve the experience of those who settle across several validators that can now set it under a knot instead of more.
