Ethereum preps to the biggest code change since the merger with pectra upgrade

Ethereum developers are preparing for Wednesday’s highly expected pectra upgrade, set to bring the biggest code change to blockchain since the merger in 2022.

Pectra – a mixture of the names Prague + Electra – consists of two upgrades that occur at Ethereum’s consensus and execution layer at the same time.

The upgrade is focused on making Ethereum blockchain more user -friendly and efficient. Pectra consists of 11 main code changes, or “Ethereum Improvement PROSALS” (EIPS), which will improve the effort experience on the network, introduce new wallet features and update the blockchain functionality.

One of the most important changes that comes to Blockchain is the EIP-7702, which gives the smart contracting features of the wallets that move them towards a technological trend called “account abstraction.” The change allows wallets to add user -friendly features as the possibility of paying gas fees with currencies other than ether (Eth.)

Another major change, known as EIP-7251, will make the effort experience for validators easier. After pectra, validators will be able to increase the maximum amount of ETH, which they can be included from 32 to 2,048, which means that those who stick across multiple validators can now consolidate them under a knot. This should mean that it will take less time to turn a new knot up and relieve the difficult experience of setting up the equipment.

Some of the changes to Pectra have been planned for a few years, although developers initially targeted all this to go live in 2024. Due to the complexity of the code switches, however, pectra was delayed until the first quarter of 2025. After the first delay, developers tested the upgrade twice on two different test nets and both upgrade that was upgraded.

“Pectra fork is coming to Ethereum Mainnet soon! Don’t forget to update your nodes,” the Ethereum Foundation Devops Engineer Parithosh Jayanthi wrote on X.

The price of ETH has fallen almost 42% in the last 12 months, while the wider market meter, Coindesk 20 -Index, dipped approx. 1.5%.
