- EU decision must be made by February 10, US investigation is still ongoing
- Google’s $32 billion acquisition of Wiz would be the biggest yet
- Wiz vows to “remain a multicloud platform”
European antitrust authorities from the bloc’s Commission are due to issue a formal decision on Google’s acquisition of Wiz as early as February 10 per Pakinomist reporting.
Valued at $32 billion, it would be Alphabet’s largest acquisition ever if the deal goes through, but it’s not just European law that’s holding the deal back.
A US review is also underway, with the DOJ conducting an early antitrust review to determine whether Google’s takeover of Wiz would restrict competition. Of course, the scope of the deal will cause ample delays, with investigations potentially taking months.
Europe to approve/reject Google’s Wiz acquisition in February 2026
In a March 2025 blog post, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian explained that the two companies intend to join forces to deal with the increased frequency and severity of cyber attacks.
Kurian also emphasized that Wiz’s products would remain cloud-agnostic and support rival companies such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud – a clear indication that Google was prepared for a competitive investigation.
“We both also believe that Wiz must remain a multicloud platform, so across any cloud we will continue to be a leading platform,” explained Wiz co-founder and CEO Assaf Rappaport.
But failure to approve would be costly for the tech giant. Google has reportedly agreed to pay Wiz a 10% breakup fee, roughly $3.2 billion, if it doesn’t close.
Although each deal is viewed in isolation, Google has not had much luck with antitrust regulators in recent years. US federal judges found the company guilty of having an illegal monopoly in online search and parts of ad technology, and the company has also been hit by European investigations into the Digital Markets Act.
