A beatdown on Bethpage Black suddenly turned into a war on Sunday, but Europe was late to win the Ryder Cup.

Shane Lowry got the 14th point needed to keep the cup with a Birdie of 18 to halve his match against Russell Henley. Tyrell Hatton picked up the last half point needed over Collin Morikawa to give Europeans the victory.

Lowry went into the 18th down, and both Henley and Lowry stabbed their iron shoots inside the feet of the hole. Henley first won his match and kept US hopes alive, but his Birdie -Putt was a roll of cards.

It brought Lowry up that drained putt in an ever -classic golf moment.

An emotional lowry went completely insane on the green and celebrated with teammates, family and friends.

Europe ended day two up 11.5-4.5, the largest deficit that a US team had ever faced in the current 28-point format of the event. After Viktor Hovland had to retreat due to a neck injury, Harris English sat the bench, and due to event rules resulted in their fight in a draw.

Thus, Europe needed only two points out of 11 available to be the first repeated champion since Europe won three ranging from 2010 to 2014. However, it was definitely a grinding to get these two points. The United States won three straight points, with Cam Young and Justin Thomas both Birdieing at 18 to win their matches, 1 up.

Suddenly the tide began to turn.

Bryson DeChambeau fought back from 5 down to seven to tie his match with Matt Fitzpatrick, who could have won it if he hadn’t missed a 3-foot of 17 while he was up.

Ludvig Aberg beat Patrick Cantlay, 2 & 1, to give Europe 13.5 points, but then Europe did not lead any of the remaining matches. Suddenly, the United States closed their gorge to only three points, but Lowry had none of it.

Lowry got the head of several jabs over the weekend from the American audience, which is possibly the only bad part of being paired with Rory McIlroy at the Ryder Cup.

Aberg’s match was the only victory on the day of Team Europe, and the United States 8.5 points on Sunday is tied to the most ever of a team on the last day of the event’s current form.

But all in all, it was a 15-13 victory for Europe.

This is also the first time that a wake up has won a Ryder Cup since Europe’s fantastic comeback in 2012 at Medinah.

Europe won each of the first four sessions, first a Ryder Cup. Three of these sessions were 3-1 scores.

The United States struggled to practically get back across the road at Bethpage Black on the back nine on the first two days, with more than a handful of matches ending at 14, 15 and 16 throughout the weekend.

But on Sunday, of the 11 games played, everyone except one at least 17 holes went with eight in progress all 18.
