- Apple’s new iPhone – 16E – is the latest member of the iPhone 16 -Family
- Even with similar appearance there are some missing features
- A single camera stands out the most, but it also lacks ultra-broadband, mmwave and a gpu core
While iPhone 16E is the latest member of the iPhone 16 family, Apple had to rebalans the feature list and hardware inside to reduce the price to $ 599 / £ 599 / AU $ 999. After all, it’s $ 200 less than iPhone 16’s starting price in the US, so some functionality simply had to go.
However, it is not to say that it is not functional. IPhone 16E still gets an A18 processor for Swift Performance and the ability to run Apple Intelligence. It also pairs with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR screen, a single camera at the back, facial ID and a design that makes it compatible with iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
So what is missing? Apart from losing some connection, it is also a tale of cameras and how to charge the iPhone 16E – let’s dive into it.
A minor GPU core than iPhone 16
Given that it is more affordable than the iPhone 16, this little fine-tuning with the Apple-Made A18 processor is not surprising. The iPhone 16E still comes with the A18 chip, but instead of a 5-core GPU like iPhone 16, it only gets 4-Bear. It still has a 5-core CPU and 16-core neural engine, so it is likely that this slightly less powerful graphic treatment unit will not make much of a difference in daily use.
Apple probably created this slightly less powerful A18 chip to keep it in the family. Alternatively, it could have used the A17 Pro chip that has a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core neural engine as it did with the iPad Mini.
Still, you can expect the iPhone 16E to trade and perform as an iPhone 16 – which means iOS 18 and different apps have to run without any problems.
Last re -photographic styles and a lens

The first thing about the camera is pretty obvious – iPhone 16E simply has a lens, just like iPhone SE that came before it. Without Ultrawide, you will be a little more limited in the types of photos you can catch and it excludes the option of the phone to take macro images.
Still, you’re back with a significant upgrade over the iPhone SE third generation, as the main lens here is a 48-megapixel fusion camera that can shoot at 1x or 2x. You have access to edit your recordings in the photos app with the opportunity to use AI to ‘clean up’ your photos. But if you want to add your own flare or go to how the iPhone is shooting, you won’t get the latest and best photographic styles from Apple.
This is not a deal breaker, but you will not necessarily be able to finesse and finesse these to your taste. The other missing piece of hardware is camera control – it’s not here. Although the arrival of the action button could set this to open the camera app.
Magsafe is missing

One of my favorite parts of the iPhone as it was introduced with the iPhone 12, Magsafe is making wireless charging much easier and driving an ever-growing accessory ecosystem. I had high hopes that Apple would have thrown the circular magnetic ring on its next affordable iPhone, but that’s not the case.
The iPhone 16E simply offers wireless charging using the original Qi standard, as well as iPhone SE’s third generation of its predecessor. It can also charge a maximum of 7.5 watts, which is slightly smaller than Magsafe or Qi-2.
However, a potential advantage is without a ring and a slimmer charging coil, Apple may have been able to use a larger battery cell inside. Apple promises up to 26 hours of video playback that tops the iPhone 16.
No mmwave or ultra-broadband connection

Finally, as far as the significant things are missing, the iPhone 16E only supports 5G under-6 GHz. This means this iPhone cannot connect to the MMWAVE spectrum for potentially faster speeds. The iPhone 16 supports this, but it is worth noting that Apple is holding this in common with the previous iPhone SE.
However, a larger lack of connection here is Apple’s second generation of Ultra-Broadband Chip, which enables things like precision finding with airtags or newer airpods and is also used by some upcoming smart home gadgets as door locks. This is a strange omission, although probably done to reduce costs and separate iPhone 16E from iPhone 16.
While the iPhone 16E supports Bluetooth 5.3 as the iPhone 16, it only shook Wi-Fi 6 versus Wi-Fi 7. Wire connection is also missing here.
Only two colors

One of my and many other, favorite parts of the iPhone 16 lineup was the standard and plus colors. In short, they were lovely, fun and lively – really added some flare to the iPhone and allowed you to choose the one who matched your personal style.
However, for those who wanted to see an ultramarin or pink iPhone 16E, it doesn’t happen … at least at the launch. IPhone 16E comes only in black or white, both matte settings.
