Shawn Kemp, who spent the majority of his NBA career with Seattle Supersonics, entered into a guilty plea in the 2023 shooting outside Tacoma Mall in State Washington.
The Pierce County prosecutor’s office confirmed that Kemp admitted assaults in the second degree in the incident. The six-time NBA All-Star originally indicted charges of first-time attacks with a firearm. Prosecutors later went on another count of first-time assault and a charge of drive-by-shooting.

If he had been sentenced to the original charges, the 55-year-old could have contradicted a significantly longer prison sentence. The Tacoma police received a call indicating shots fired from a passing vehicle in the parking lot in Tacoma Mall, Fox 13 reported in March 2023.

The former NBA Center allegedly claimed that property was stolen from his car and he asked his iPhone to Tacoma Mall.
A source close to Kemp said when the retired NBA player approached the vehicle, a suspected shot at him, and he fired back in self-defense. Police said no one was injured in the shooting.

Two people inside the car remain in police custody of non -related charges.
Video of the incident was shared on social media. Some of the video recordings seemed to contradict Kemp’s account of the events in question.

Kemp is still facing the possibility of imprisonment. An assault in Washington has a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $ 20,000 fine. Doming is scheduled for August 22.
Kemp played in the NBA from 1989 to 2003. He was a first round of Supersonics election and played for the team until the 1996-97 season. Seattle played Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls In the NBA final in 1996 and lost in six matches.
Kemp later played with Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic. He completed his career with a 14.6 point per Average along with 8.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
