The older brother of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan was shot to death in Swabis Ahad Khan -village, police said Sunday.
Shakeel Ahmed Khan was fatally hit when he tried to intervene in a dispute with his neighbor’s house.
The suspect allegedly had just shot and killed his own father. When Shakeel Ahmed Khan rushed to help the victim, he was also targeted and mortally shot, police say.
Swabi District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Azhar declared that Kamran is a drug addict and mentally unstable. Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation and assured that the suspect will soon be arrested.
Senior political leaders, including Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, have strongly condemned the killing of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan’s brother in Swabi.
Rehman expressed solidarity with the grieving family and called the attack a “brutal act of violence.” He urged the government to secure rapid trials against the perpetrators.
KP Minister of Chief Gandapur also condemned the killing and conveyed his condolance to the former senator. He assured that the suspect would be subjected to strict punishment under the law and prayed for the deceased and his family.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
