Despite countless leaks and rumors around the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, the phone remains a relative mystery in official terms. We know its name, we know it has two cameras and we know it is unlikely slim, but in the months since its announcement on the Galaxy unpacked in January, Samsung has refrained from sharing, well, all about its supposed iPhone 17 Air competition.
For the most part, it did not change on MWC 2025, although in an exclusive interview with Techradar under the Barcelona-based showcase, Samsung’s British marketing director, Annika Bizon, revealed that Edge’s form factor (it was rid of only 5.84 mm thick) does not come to the expense of durability.
“I can’t say too much but what I want to say is that [the Edge] is about beautiful form factor. And there are two points I want to do, ”Bizon explained. “One is that it’s absolutely fantastic. And if you think of the technology that goes into that size of the room, it’s pretty impressive.
“The other thing I would say relate to durability. With some slim, durability [has to come as part of the package]. It’s the two features [of the Edge] It is exciting [for us]. I know durability is not exciting – but it is really important. So see this space because there are some exciting things that come in terms of this phone. “

OK, nothing pioneering, but it sounds like the edge will bring something new to the table about durability that matches with a very specific design rumors we’ve already heard.
According to reports, the Galaxy S25 edge could break away from the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup using a ceramic back panel instead of Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Ceramics are harder than glass, so a fully ceramic or ceramic-infunded glass panel would ensure that the galaxy S25 Edge Drum thickness.
This will also explain why Samsung has maintained a ‘Look Don’t Touch’ approach with the edge of both the Galaxy Package and MWC 2025, where the phone was exhibited behind a barrier. Maybe, if fans were allowed to go practical with the device, they would be able to feel the difference in back panel material, which is probably something Samsung wants to keep under packaging for a dedicated unveiling event.
Other rumor durability specifications for the edge include an IP68 water and dust resistance assessment and aluminum pages that would match the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra meanwhile uses Gorilla Glass Armor 2 and a titanium body.
Why edge? Why now?
As for why Samsung brings the Galaxy S25 Edge to the market in years and by shaking its tried and tested Product Release Strategy Bizard Bizon it down to an internal commitment to innovation and consumer interest in something new.
“The case with slim phones,” she explains, “are people who want to know that they still get very good technology. Innovation is in our DNA. It’s about the right timing and when we think a product is ready to go to the market, combined with the fact that people want form factor changes.
“We’ve seen it with foldable. We are a brand for everyone. And being an open brand means you need to have technology that is for everyone. Some people do not want to change from a flat phone; Some people love flip; Some people love the fold. There is something for everyone and I think this is where Samsung is really leading. “
Bizon concluded: “The edge is exciting because it is a new form factor that is pretty sexy. It’s completely different. And it’s funny. It’s a fun thing to be able to market as well. It’s absolutely amazing, I’m super excited about it. “
And as for the even more secretive Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold: “I really can’t tell you anything,” Bizon, “not unless you want someone to get around and grab me in the neck.” It is sufficient to say we stopped the interview there.
