ISLAMABAD: The families of the two young women who lost their lives after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Islamabad have pardoned the suspect, leading to the closure of the case.

The development came when both the families recorded their statements before the trial judge Shaista Khan Kundi.

The teenage boy, whose father is said to be attached to the judiciary, was sent to four days of physical custody on December 2 after his car fatally hit a scooter carrying two women at Islamabad’s Secretariat Chowk on Shahrah-e-Dastoor.

Police said the car collided with the scooter, killing both women on the spot. The driver was arrested immediately after the incident and later produced before the court. The judge handed the accused over to the police with four days of physical custody for further investigation.

The court was told during today’s proceedings that the parties had reached a settlement, after which the judge approved the suspect’s bail and ordered his release.

One of the victim’s brothers appeared in court to record the family’s statement, while the mother’s statement was recorded online. The father of the other deceased girl also gave his statement in person.

The suspect was presented to the court after the completion of his four days of physical custody.
