Islamabad:

The famous mountaineer Murad Sadpara, known for his high-altitude mountain climbing and high-altitude rescue missions, was awarded to Sitara-E-Imtiaz in recognition of his services.

The prestigious award was received by his widow during the investment ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Last year, Sadepara tragically lost his life as he fell over the wide top, an 8,047 meter (26,400 feet) giant mountain in the Karakoram Range. He was hit by a falling cliff on the way down the mountain and maintained deadly damage. He had begun on the climb along with a Portuguese climber, but their ascent was shortened when his partner fell ill in the middle of harsh weather conditions. Although a rescue team was sent, he died before help could reach him.

Sadpara’s legacy is characterized by his extraordinary courage. Just weeks before his death, he played an important role in picking up the body of Muhammad Hassan Shigri from a height of 8,200 m on K2 – a pioneering mission recognized as the first of its kind on the world’s second highest top. In the previous year, he participated in another historical improvement and reduced the remains of an Afghan climbing from camp 3 on K2.

His unwavering courage and dedication gave him the admiration of the global mountaineering community. Special thanks were expanded to all mountaineers, FCNA and Gilgit-Baltist administration for their support during the award ceremony. Recognition was also expanded to patron of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Major General Irfan Arshad, for his continued help with Sadpara’s family in their difficult time after his passing.
