The American Insurer Group Farmers Insurance has confirmed that it recently fell victim to a third -party cyberattack, where it loses sensitive data on more than a million people.
A notification of data violation of notification sent to affected persons says the company was warned of the attack on May 30, 2025, when one of its third -party providers discovered unauthorized access to one of its databases.
Subsequent study concluding almost two months later determined that the named threat actors stole names, birth dates, driver’s license numbers and the last four digits of social security number (SSN), for exactly 1,071,172 people.
Not all systems are affected in the same way
Service for mainly individuals and small businesses, farmers insurance is part of the Zurich Insurance Group, and reported $ 2.2 billion in profits last year.
It also owns and operates several insurance companies, each focused on different markets, including insurance of the 21st century, farmers New World Life Insurance Company, Farmers Financial Solutions, forward insurance and Bristol West Insurance.
The latter two were also hit, with others may also be affected, as the letter reads, “Some of the brands include first and foremost and Bristol West.”
The forthcoming insurance specializes in specialized lines, including mobile houses, manufactured houses, motorcycles, boats, RVS, off-road vehicles and even things like the landlord/rental housing.
Bristol West, on the other hand, covers car insurance, especially for people who may not qualify for standard policies due to driving registration, credit or other risk factors.
At the time of the press, no threat actors have yet assumed responsibility for the attack, and the farmers did not see the data that were abused throughout nature.
However, it encourages its customers to remain vigilant and be extra careful with incoming e emails and other communications that claim to come from the company. In addition, it offers the victims two years of identity theft -protection services for free.
