Pakistan -Super Star Fawad Khan is ready to make a comeback in the Bollywood cinema while playing in the upcoming romantic film ‘Abir Gulaal’ with the Indian Starlet Vaani Kapoor.
The film was announced last year and the producers gave the fans a glimpse of it by dropping a teaser on April 1st.
‘Abir Gulaal’ is ready to be released on May 9, and the Pakistani Heartthrob’s fans buzzed with excitement online as they voted into the teaser of Fawad and Vaani in a car listening and vibed to the iconic song “Kucha Na Kaho” from “1942: A Love Story”.
By going to his Instagram account, the Vaani teaser shared and wrote it with, “The wait is over! To bring love back to the big screen with Abir Gulaal and @fawadkhan81. A richer lens movie @aricherlens. See you in the cinemas on May 9!” and added a magical and heartemoji toward the end of the text.
Unfortunately, dark clouds also hover over the fate of the movie, which is Fawad’s first Bollywood performance since the lead role in Karan Joars “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” in 2016.
Maharashtra Nameirman Sena (MNS), a regional party in Mumbai led by Raj Thackeray, strongly against the film’s screening in Maharashtra.
MNS spokesman Ameya Khopkar responded strongly to the film’s announcement of the release date and warned that the party does not allow the film to be screened in Maharashtra.
“The movie Abir Gulal is not allowed to release in India, period. Those who want to support Pakistani artists can do it, but remember, you are against us,” wrote the spokesman at X.
Fawad was absent from the Indian cinema due to an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists in India after the URI attack in 2016. Collaboration with Pakistani artists was discouraged by the Indian Motion Picture Produces Association (IMPPA) when it adopted a decision.
By 2023, however, the official ban was dismissed by Bombay High Court after it received a petition who officially sought Pakistani artists.
