Fazlur Rehman warns of protests over minor marriage ban

Jui-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the proposed bill that tried to ban minor marriages, warning that the lack of pulling it could force her party to take the streets, Express News reported.

When he spoke in the National Assembly on Monday, Rehman criticized the time of the bill and argued that the country needs unity and solidarity, not controversy. “This is a time to promote national cohesion, but the government is nevertheless pushing a divisive bill,” he said.

With reference to the bill prohibiting marriage for individuals under the age of 18, he questioned the need to introduce such legislation at this critical moment. “If I’m against the bill, people will question my attitude, but I have to raise my voice,” he said.

He called on the speaker for the National Assembly to make a decision against the bill and warned the government not to force its party to protest the streets. “It would be better to stop this legislation and refer it to the Council of Islamic Ideology. If they find no objection, I don’t want anyone either,” he added.

Rehman, who approached recent regional tensions, said the whole country and parliament are united to condemn India’s aggression. He condemned India’s rapid guilt on Pakistan after the PeHalgam event in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir without conducting any investigation.

“India launched missiles aimed at our civil and religious places, claiming they attacked the terrorist’s hiding place. They accused us of their own security errors,” he said.

He praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their quick and effective answers and said, “If our military establishment admits that it cannot fight without national support, we must ensure that unity. India began aggression, but our military’s answers will be remembered in history.”

The Jui-F chief also paid tribute to Pakistan’s forces and highlighted the need to maintain unity, even after a ceasefire. “India’s parliament mocks his own leadership. Modi is isolated without public support. To save face he can go to such tactics again,” he warned.

He highlighted to grow Pakistan-China tapes, especially within the defense domain. “Our financial partnership with China has now entered the defense sphere. We must rely on our allies.”

He also said European and Israeli technologies failed in recent meetings, while Chinese and Asian technologies succeeded. “The world witnessed how our pilots effectively used modern technology,” he claimed.

He further emphasized the importance of keeping the Afghan border peaceful. He referred to the drone strike in Waziristan, which was also discussed in parliament, and mentioned his party’s million marches in Peshawar and Quetta.

“We organized events to break the climate of fear and demonstrate national unity. We showed the world that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are very vibrant,” he concluded.
