FIA launching query against Farhatullah Babar

Rawalpindi:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an investigation against the former PPP senator Farhatullah Babar for his alleged involvement in corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and acquisition of illegal assets.

The query is based on a set of 18-20 questions delivered to Babar seeking his answer. The investigation relates to his term of office as a senator.

According to sources, the study was triggered by a private complaint filed by a person from Rawalpindi. After the complaint, a formal message was sent to Babar and he was called to appear for FIA’s anti-corruption circle.

The former senator showed up for the agency before Eidul Fitr, where he was asked about his income and assets. However, the case was postponed until after the holidays.

After Eid, Babar again visited FIA’s anti-corruption circle in Islamabad, where he was presented with a detailed questionnaire that covered his assets, tax registers and other relevant information. He was advised by his lawyer to submit his answers after reviewing the questions. In the meantime, Babar requested a copy of the complaint filed against him and details of the complainant, but FIA asked him to wait.

Babar then left the FIA office, and a statement from him in a national newspaper later stated that he had not had any government position since 2013. He mentioned to work as spokesman for President Asif Ali Zardari.
