Peshawar:

In a serious violation of official behavior and cultural norms, a FIA -officially stationed at Torkham Border Immigration Center has been suspended after a video became viral on social media showing him filmed female travelers without their consent.

The incident, contrary to traditional Pashtun values, allegedly took place during immigration procedures where women without veil were registered without permission. The video quickly became viral on social media, drawn public indignation and triggered immediate action from the federal investigative agency.

According to a FIA spokesman, the suspended official identified as Ehtesham-Ul-Haq was sent on Torkham Immigration Checkpost. He was seen in the viral footage that filmed travelers during the tariff hours. With a strong announcement of the case, FIA’s Director -General has suspended the officer with immediate effect and ordered a departmental investigation. A detailed report on the incident has also been sought from FIA Peshawar Zone’s director.

“The FIA remains obliged to give a respectful and dignified immigration experience to all travelers,” the spokesman said. “Any abuse of authority or violation of official duty will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he added.

The agency emphasized that it works on emergencies to modernize immigration services and ensure strict compliance with professional standards. “All officials are expected to deal with citizens in a polite, legal and disciplined manner. Violation of rules will result in strict disciplinary action without discrimination,” the spokesman added.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for education and accountability for staff implemented on sensitive boundary points, especially in cultural sensitive regions.
