Islamabad:
Cyber Crimes Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) on Tuesday initiated an investigation into the alleged use of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI)-founder Imran Khan’s social media account to spread what officials called an ‘anti-state tale’.
According to the sources, a three-member member of FIA Cybercrime Vasilabad, led by Ayaz Khan, visited Adiala Prison on Tuesday to question the PTI founder about his X-handle.
Investigators asked who served the account where it was accessed and whether the PTI founder had authorized others to use it. They also pressed whether he was aware of the content sent from the account considered ‘anti-state’.
“My X account that uses it -I don’t want to pass on,” the PTI founder allegedly told the team, according to sources.
Imran Khan is said to have required a written questionnaire from investigators and insisted that he would only answer in the presence of his lawyers. The FIA team remained in Adiala prison for more than an hour, sources added.
The former prime minister had condemned what he called a ‘constitutional trial’ in the Adiala prison and urged supporters to prepare for a lot of rally in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Authorities described the post as ‘anti-state’ content, which led to fresh examination of the use of his social media platforms.
In his statement, Khan said, “Over three hundred manufactured cases have been registered against me, which I all face. I will show up with justice from the courts without making any agreement. Any kind of oppression has been inflicted on our party. My wife and I would be released today if cases of profits were decided.”
He accused the government of violating human rights and limiting his access to basic facilities. “My books are detained, and in eight months I was only allowed to talk to my children. The judges in my cases have no authority; they cannot carry out the trials independently,” he claimed.
Khan called the case against him constitutionally and said, “This oppressive system cannot endure long. It is important that all of you repeat submissions from my account, in a clear message of unity and adaptation.”
He also instructed his party to announce a magnificent public rally in KP and said that participants from all over the country should be gathered “to stand together against the darkness that is empowering us.”
In another post on X, Imran criticized the government’s policy of expeling Afghans from Pakistan and the ongoing military operations in KP and warned that such measures cost lives. “Because of these policies, our own people are martyrated everywhere,” he said.
He called for “lasting peace to come only through dialogue. This approach can never establish peace.” He added that “no operation can succeed without the cooperation between stakeholders, nor can there be any sustainable solution.”
