- Apple has made it possible to move purchases between two Apple IDs for the first time
- This is designed for a single user to consolidate purchases under an account
- The process requires both accounts to be logged in to the same iPhone or iPad
Apple has activated the migration of purchases between two Apple ID accounts for the first time, so users can trouble -free buying apps, songs, movies, books and other purchases from one account to another.
The new feature was revealed with a little fanfare via an official Apple Support article showing the several conditions that must be met for migration to be possible.
To consolidate purchases under an account, both accounts must be logged in to the same iPhone or iPad – it doesn’t matter if you are using an iPhone 16 or iPhone SE as long as both accounts are logged in to the same device.
The primary account – this is the account you are moving purchases – must be logged to iCloud, while the secondary account – the one you are moving from – must be logged to media and purchase settings.
Finally, the two accounts cannot belong to different family parting groups. Once all these conditions are met, it becomes possible to consolidate purchases in the primary account.
How to Migrate Buy Between Two Apple Accounts
First open the setting app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your name and then tap media and purchase. Press View Account and Log in with your secondary account if the prompt appears.
Then, press Migrere purchases, take a moment to review the information displayed on the screen, and follow the on -screen instructions.
Once the process is completed, you see a message appearing that reads: “Buy has been migrated”.
Finally, log out of the secondary account in the Media & Buy menu and log in with your primary account.
As Apple’s support page notes, the Purchase Migration Function is designed for more accounts users to consolidate their purchases under an Apple ID instead of sharing purchases between multiple users.
Historically, it has been impossible to move purchases from one account to another – users have instead had to rely on solutions like iCloud Family Sharing. As it happens, that’s exactly what I’ve done with two of my own Apple accounts in the last few years, and although it has worked fine for me, I would always have preferred to have everything under a virtual roof.
The new purchasing migration function is not yet available in the UK, the European Union or India, but for other regions the feature must be available now.
In any case, I am glad to see a new example of the ecosystem’s cohesion that does with the help of the best iPhones and best iPads for such a smooth experience. Want to move your purchases to an Apple ID account? Tell us that in the comments below.
