The Karachi police have registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Karachi president and seven other senior leaders along with over 500 other unidentified workers on charges of rebellion, vandalism and disturbance of public policy during a collection of University Road in Karachi.
The case was filed at the PIB Colony Police Station on behalf of the state after violent events during a rally held on August 5 near the Gullshan-e-Iqbal.
The rally was led by PTI leaders Raja Azhar, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Arsalan Khalid, Awab Alvi, Saifur Rehman and Alamgir Khan and participated by an estimated 500 to 600 participants.
According to FIR, the participants in the rally participants blocked opposing traffic and ignored police directives to spread.
Despite repeated warnings, several participants began, allegedly armed with sticks, pelted stones of law enforcement staff, causing the police to respond with tear gas under self -defense measures.
During the clash, the main contrast sourced Ejaz of Aziz Bhatti police station head injuries after being hit by a stone. Protesters fled through streets nearby as police regain control of the situation.
Station House Officer (SHO) PIB Inspector Muhammad Ashfaq confirmed that FIR was registered in accordance with sections 147, 148, 149, 186 and 353 of the Pakistani Criminal Code.
He said 12 PTI employees had been arrested, while 500 to 550 unidentified suspects named in FIR remain largely. Studies are ongoing.
Separately, the Islamabad police have registered a case against 16 workers in Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), including both men and women, for having participated in a protest on Islamabad Expressway.
The protest took place on August 5, when female PTI workers were seen singing slogans and waving party flags.
Police arrested the protesters on the spot and later transferred them to Lohi Bher Police Station.
According to officials, FIR includes a total of 16 legal sections, including provisions under the PAPA Act and 11 other offenses. Litigation is currently underway.
