First Female MLB -Umpire Jen Pawol scores 92.72% accuracy in debut

Jen Pawol made the MLB story this weekend as the first female judge to be shown in a major league match after over a decade earning in the smaller leagues.

While debuting at the bases under Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins on Saturday Doubleheader, she was behind the record for the first time during the series’ final on Sunday.

UMPSCORECARDS, which accumulates data for all home plate UMPIRES throughout the season, shared Pawol’s performance results from Sunday. She called 92.72% of balls and strikes exactly, according to the outlets, and got 140 out of 151 taken seats called correctly.

The average for Umpires this season has been 94.23%according to the data.

By breaking down the report card, Pawols called ball accuracy 95%, with five of the 104 balls called inaccurately. The average for UMPIRES this season is 97%.

For called Strike accuracy, her brand was 88%, which is the average for all UMPIRES in 2025. She called six of 47 strikes inaccurately, according to the report.

While relative accuracy was -1.4% below the expected, Pawol received a good review from Marlin’s manager Clayton McCullough after the match.

“I think Jen did a really good job,” he said via the New York Post.

“I think she’s very composed in there. She handled and succeeded the game very well. And great day for her. Big day for Major League Baseball. I congratulated her again because it’s quite the performance.”

Pawol, who played Softball at Hofstra University, spent 10 seasons in smaller leagues and served as a referee in more than 1,200 games. She said “The dream actually came true” when she ran on the field during Saturday’s doubleheader, where a loud cheer from fans in Truist Park in Atlanta rained down.

“I still live in it, and I’m just so grateful to my family, for Major League Baseball just to create such a fantastic working environment for the referees I work with – we just have amazing camera. We’re working hard, but we’re having fun. And I’m just so grateful,” Pawol said.

While Pawol’s next MLB task remains unclear – she is what is considered a rover called from the smaller leagues to call games – the story was made in Atlanta over the weekend.
