Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially resumed direct trade, with the first state -sponsored cargo ship departing from Port Qasim.
According to Express News, this marks the first direct trade and formal commercial commitment between the two nations since the fall of Dhaka. The initiative represents a significant milestone in financial connections and restores official trading tapes by decades.
As part of the agreement, Bangladesh will buy a total of 50,000 tonnes of Irri Ris from Pakistan’s Trading Corporation in Pakistan (TCP). The deal was completed in the first week of February.
The order will be met in two stages with the second shipping of 25,000 tonnes scheduled until early March. Alongside this shipping, direct shipping paths between the two countries will also be restored, which further strengthens financial ties.
For the first time, a Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) vessel that carries government good will Dokke in a Bangladeshi Port, marking a new era in bilateral trade and maritime cooperation.
