Last week, the news that the Amazon-backed Slate Auto Project would begin the production of its Cut-award electrical pickup next year, but the company is not alone.
While pricing still needs to be determined, Isuzu-without doubt has one of the most iconic names in commercial vehicles that it will release an electric version of its D-Max Pick-Up Truck in 2026.
Although its reach is surprisingly sparse in some markets (only D-Max is now sold in England, for example), the company enjoys success in Asia, including its domestic market in Japan, Thailand and others, where solid, reliable trucks are important for daily life.
D-MAX EV joins, like KGM’s (formerly Ssangyong) electrified Musso, Maxus Eterron 9, the upcoming BYD shark and a number of cheap electrified pick-up trucks that could soon make their way from China.
While like Ford and Chevrolet, relatively slow sales of electrical pick-ups experienced, the market could soon become the next hot disputed EV-Bagmark for global producers.
Towing, drawing and off-road performance has typically proven access barriers to this body style, but Isuzu claims its EV is on par with the diesel setting it also offers: It can carry more than 1,000 kg in bed, tow 3,500 kg and accelerate from 0-62 mph in 10.1 seconds.
66.9 kWh battery pack is located under the floor and the EV version uses the same ladder chasssis as the existing truck. Although this is here, Isuzu adds permanent four -wheel drive with an engine at the front and rear shafts.
According to the selection, off-road performance is not affected by the electrified driveline with a hefty 210 mm soil spacing and a wade depth of up to 600 mm. There are also steep approaches and angles for when the terrain becomes tough.

Isuzu has not revealed an official award for D-Max EV, but we would expect it to be significantly more than approx. $ 53,000 / £ 40,000 / AU $ 84,000, which is currently charging for a diesel -powered version.
This puts it in the Ford F-150 Lightning Figure Line, offering an EV interval of 230 miles in the most basic variants. Isuzu, on the other hand, says its truck manages about 163 miles on a single charge.
As we have seen with various electrical pickups, including Tesla Cybertruck, drawing or towing load has a major impact on the electric range, which for many is already too tight for daily use cases.
Slate Auto has been honest about the battery area and the very basic nature of the upcoming model, but the result is that it seems to be really affordable. The trucks offered by Ford, Chevrolet, Rivian, Tesla and now Isuzu is still probably too expensive for many considering the compromises.
But electrical commercial vehicles are growing rapidly in popularity as technology improves and many governments continue to encourage their use for environmental reasons.
According to a report, the global electric truck market is set to reach a valuation of $ 78 billion by the end of 2033, up from a valuation of $ 19.5 billion by 2023.
With a number of cheaper, electric models that will arrive from China in the coming years, as well as those from more established Western brands, the electrical pickup market could well be the next warmly disputed battlefield for sales.
