Five police officers were killed when a police vehicle threw himself into a deep gap in Bagh district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Express News reported Wednesday.
According to authorities, the vehicle was on its way from Toli Peer to Lasdanna when the accident occurred in a remote area. The reason for the crash remains during investigation.
Police officials reported that the remote location and darkness seriously inhibited the rescue effort. Emergency Response -Teams were sent immediately after the incident was reported.
“The number of confirmed martyrs is five,” said a Bagh police spokesman. “However, it is too early to say how many others were in the vehicle. Studies and verifications are ongoing.”
Authorities have not yet revealed the total number of passengers or the exact cause of the crash, but a formal study has been launched.
AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-Ul-Haq expressed deep grief over the loss of life in the accident. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner and Police Superintendent to reach the stage and secure timely rescue and relief operations.
“All relevant administrative units have been instructed to carry out rescue operations without delay,” said the Prime Minister’s office. Road accidents in mountainous areas of Azad Kashmir are not uncommon, especially on poorly lit routes with steep and narrow paths.
