Flood Emergency imposed in 40 river areas

Given the high flooding situation in River Sutlej, the district administration has launched an operation to change residents and livestock from vulnerable areas to safer places.

Emergency has been declared in 40 giles. Deputy Commissioner Lubna Nazir appealed to people who lived near the river to move to safer places immediately.

She said that flooding camps have been created where all important facilities are delivered to the affected families.

DC further urged residents to cooperate with the administration and the police to ensure their own security.

According to official figures, 4,000 people and about 4,500 animals have been moved to safe areas of Lodhran district.

In DC’s instructions, district officers also visit affected sites to raise awareness of flooding risks and precautions.

By tackling residents of nearby villages, additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Syed Waseem Hassan said that sand bags are prepared as a protective measure to control the water flow in the event of an emergency.

He also appealed to the citizens of flooding areas to move to designated secure sites where necessary facilities are available.
