Hyderabad:
The high flood at the Guddu barrier continued to witness a gradual fall on Tuesday with a further reduction of about 20,000 seen in 24 hours since Monday night. On the other hand, the river climbed about 11,000 CUSERCS at SUKKUR BARRAGE and 16,000 CUSERCS on Kotri Barrage at the same time.
According to the Lahore -based flood division, Torrent’s quantum dropped from 624,456 CUSERCs Monday evening to 605,456 CUSERCs of 24 hours after achieving a highlight of 635,759 CUSSCS in the upstream of 6 AM on Monday. The barrier was discharged 575,706 downstream.
With a moderate wave, SUKKUR 571,800 CUSSCS, up from 560,890 CUSERCS a day ago. Likewise, the reading of 284,325 CUSSCS improved to 300,853 CUSSCS at Kotri Barrage. The former barrier releases 518.120 CUSSCS and the latter 289,098 CuseCs downstream.
The Sindh government claimed to have prepared to confront a super flood of 900,000 CUSERCS or more with reference to warnings of up to 1.1 million CuseC’s flood received from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). However, Guddu has registered a highest point of 635,759 CUSERCS this year. It seems unlikely that this level will show an increase because the water level in the rivers in Punjab has constantly gone down.
On Tuesday night, Panjnad Roller Barrage 211.384 CuseCs and Taunsa Barrage 141.908 CuseCs against Sindh. This torrent reaches the goddu before passing through SUKKUR and KOTRI on his way to the Arabian Sea.
Bridges on Indus
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has inspected all its four bridges on the Indus River in Sindh and declared on Tuesday that the structures are robust enough to easily maintain the flood pressure. Member South Zone National Highway Authority Ramesh Raja told The Express Pakinomist that he led the inspection of all bridges from the Guddu Barrage Command to Kotri.
According to him, all of these bridges have the capacity to withstand up to 1.4 million cuses of the river. He stated that not only traffic is moving smoothly on the bridge, but a large number of people have been working on these places to see the flood. Raja said NHA has set up surveillance camps at each of the bridges and that their officials have worked in close coordination with Sindh Irrigation Department.
The bridges include 1.58 kilometers long Sukkur Bridge; 1.22 km Khairpur-Larkana Bridge; 1.32 km Qazi Ahmed-Amri Bridge; and 1.58 km Hyderabad Bridge. He said that another bridge on Indus in Jamshoro and another between Ghotki and Kandhkot is under construction. The former will be linked to the M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway.
