Florida Property Taxes: Ex-NFL Star Apparently agrees with Florida Gov. Ron Desantis

Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Geno Smith apparently agreed with Florida Gov. Ron Desantis’ attitude to paying annual property taxes.

Desantis suggested the idea of getting rid of property taxes in the state when he talked about establishing a department of government -efficiency -like task force to help trim the state’s spending.

“Just to be on your property you have to write a check to the government every year, so you basically pay rent to the government to live on your own property,” Desantis said via Florida Voice News.

“There’s Homestead -Thing that helps protect you to some extent, but you pay more and many people can’t afford it, so I think it’s a big problem and I know we really see ways to bring people relief from it because I think it’s really something that squeezes a lot of homeowners, especially seniors on regular incomes,” he added.

Smith responded with an emoji on X, suggesting that the Republican governor was on point.

Smith is signed with Seahawks through the 2025 season. He has earned more than $ 67.4 million in his career, according to Spotrac.

Desantis approved the idea earlier this month at X.

“Property taxes are local, not state. So we will have to make a constitutional change (requires 60% of voters to approve) to eliminate them (as I would support) or even to reform/lower them,” he wrote in a social media post.

“We should put the boldest amendment on the ballot that has a chance to get the 60%. I agree that taxation of land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective tax form.”
