FN releases $ 600,000 for flood relief in Pakistan

The United Nations has released $ 600,000 in support of relief efforts for victims of flash floods caused by merciless monsoon rains in Pakistan.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told journalists in New York that Pakistani authorities, supported by UN and local partners, are leading the emergency. A UN team will conduct an injury survey on Wednesday.

Over the past ten days, more than 400 people have been killed and 190 wounded, while at least 20,000 remain displaced. Since the beginning of the 2025 -Monsun season on June 26, the authorities have registered 798 deaths and over 1,000 injuries nationwide.

The UN Humanitarian Affairs Office (OCHA) reported that people affected by the flood need shelter, medical assistance, cash for work, hygiene sets, clean drinking water, education and protection support, especially for women and girls.

“The authorities are the answer with the support of the United Nations and local partners,” the spokesman also said.

Dujarric warned that Pakistan’s meteorological department has predicted further heavy rain in the coming days and raises fears of further flooding.
