- Beta version 2.25.7.7 of WhatsApp for Android includes a feature that groups related messages in a thread.
- This can make parsing scattering chats much easier.
- I am glad it looks like a practical feature rather than an AI tool.
While companies are falling over themselves to add AI tools to all kinds of products and services, WhatsApp seems to step down another path, with the messaging service that wants to add a feature that groups specific answers to messages in a thread instead of showing them as different answers.
This news comes with permission from Wabetainfo, which discovered the feature of Beta version 2.25.7.7 of WhatsApp for Android. Such betas usually offer a strong indication of what contains users can expect to look rolled out in future WhatsApp updates.
In fact, this new feature seems to be an easy way to track messages relating to each other.
Currently, WhatsApp only lets users respond to a single message isolated. If you, like me, have friends who seem to discuss multiple topics at once and you are like me and ask a lot of questions or have thoughts on the different topics, it can be a nightmare to keep track of certain elements in an intricate WhatsApp chat.
So what might look like a little upgrade to WhatsApp could be a gift for people like me. It is also gratifying that WhatsApp looks at a feature that has a tangible use in the real world, rather than adding generative AI elements to Smoosh emojies together or changing the tone of a message tone never communicates well in text anyway.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, as iPhone users will be familiar with message threads in the standard messages in iOS. But Apple’s implementation is not perfect, so if WhatsApp can create a more elegant roof, then I’m all for it.
Exactly when this thread feature actually rolls out to WhatsApp users is not ready. It looks soon or it can take a few more updates to WhatsApp to get it right and work smoothly across Android and iOS.
For now, it’s a coincidence of looking at this room, but I cross my fingers that the update comes before rather than later before certain friends make me crazy with too many points and items stuffed in an explosion of messages.
