- AirPods Pro 3 is expected to be revealed this week
- New sensors, minor case but not the ‘more significant’ update we want
- It’s IR cameras that are tipped for next year – in AirPods Pro 4
Apple’s big iPhones ‘N’ Everything event is only a few hours away, and the launch of AirPods Pro 3 has gone from being rumored to what looks like a dead certificate. But if you hang on to the best airpods ever made you can channel The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the GalaxyDEEP TANK: The supercomputer, allegedly the best computer has ever made, told everyone that the smart thing to do was wait for the next version.
The Apple Pundit Ming-Chi Kuo is this week’s deep thought and reports that AirPods Pro 3 is actually imminent. But AirPods 4 will apparently be “more significant” and is currently planned to launch next year.
What can one expect from AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 4
According to KUO, the big upgrade in AirPods Pro 4 will be the long rumor of the infra-red camera that would recognize hand movements and also help improve the spatial sound with better tracking of head and movement. TR’s audio editor Becky Scarrott has picked up the feature (and how it is premature for admission to Pro 3) and notes how beneficial the feature could also be from a security perspective.
The rumored changes in AirPods Pro 3 are less – literally. The charging case is reportedly slimmed down a bit. AirPods Pro 3 is also expected to get the same heartbeat monitoring function that we have already seen in Powerbeats Pro 2., and there are rumors that they can also get temperature feel.
Even if the AirPods Pro 3 causes your credit card to move in anticipation, you might be hanging on a little: While Apple is undoubtedly growing lyrically on AirPods Pro 3’s new features during its big event, some of these features, such as live translation, may not go live before a while after launch. And of course, the longer you wait after the launch, the more likely you are to get at least one modest discount on the sticker.
That’s why I currently stay with my AirPods Pro 2: While AirPods Pro 3 will undoubtedly be better, the current model is still among the very best earplugs you can get for your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac.
