- Meta has just announced that it is working with Oakley on something new
- Most likely, this is the long rumor oakley smart glasses
- We will find out more on June 20
Oakley and Meta officially collaborate on something – I mean it’s smart glasses, right? – And we’ll find out everything about it in just a few days on June 20, 2025.
Meta’s CTO, Andrew Bosworth, went to social media to share a bombastic promo video with Meta and Oakley Logos.
This message has long arrived. We first heard that Meta has developed Oakley versions of its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses back in January, and that makes a lot of sense.
Ray-Ban smart glasses are among Meta’s most popular gadgets, and as another Essilorluxotica brand, Oakley, is also in a first-class position to try to get into the Smart Glasses action.
What is strange, however, is that Meta does not do this revealed at Meta Connect in September, as it usually would. Instead of, according to Oakley’s web site, “The next development comes on June 20th.”
As for what this development can look like according to the leaks, the Oakley specifications will be based on its spaera glasses. The specifications of the glasses would apparently match the current model of beam connections (ie camera, no screen), but would move the camera to the middle of the glasses frame and include features to appeal to cyclists and athletes.
Now, Meta technically has not specifically said that we get Oakley -smart glasses, but given the previous leaks, and that Oakley is a glasses brand, that’s anything but certain, that’s what we get.
To bring the fight to Android XR
This may have always been the plan, but given how unusual the timing is, I cannot help but feel that this is a reaction to Google’s recent Android XR debut.
Five brands work with Google to make Android XR glasses, including Samsung, Xreal and Gentle Monster. Still, Meta has so far only had one partner.
Although Meta is hardly on the back foot, its main advantage is that its glasses are not only available but also dominate smart glasses. And by launching its Oakley specifications before rather than later, Meta does not give Android XR time to breathe.
We do not expect the first Android XR specifications to be launched until 2026, and it can cause problems for the new XR operating system if the space is already saturated with large meta -specifications.

Another advantage of the launch now is that it gives Meta’s other rumor Smart Glasses project space to own Meta Connect.
Of course, it’s its leaked smart glasses that contain a screen. According to rumors, you can see apps and messages with a system that sounds identical to everything Google advertised for its scars glasses.
Again, while Google first had to showcase the next GEN consumer AR specifications, Meta is apparently set to be the first mainstream company to actually launch a pair, with this message still set to Meta Connect 2025.
We will have to wait and see what Meta announces on June 20 and in September, but its Ray-Ban smart glasses remain one of my favorite gadgets in the last few years and I am in ecstasy that it is finally getting some hardware updates.
