- Ayaneo has announced a new handheld game -PC using AMD’s Ryzen AI HX 370 processor
- Ayaneo Flip 1S DS will contain two screens as its predecessor but with a Main 1080p OLED screen
- Prices and battery specifications have not been announced yet
While launched by Ayaneo’s Flip DS-handed game PC in 2024 and delivered a portable gaming experience with double screen, it has been taken another jump with a new device and this time I think it might just be enough to call it a much improved spiritual successor to Nintendo DS (or 2DS).
As reported by Videocardz, Ayaneo has announced Flip 1S DS Handheld Gaming PC using AMD’s powerful Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor and perhaps most importantly a 7-inch 1920×1080 144Hz OLED Main Display with up to 800 Nits Peak Lightness. It will also contain a secondary LCD screen (hence ‘DS’ name) with a 1620×1080 resolution.
While it may seem like its predecessor, Flip DS, the upgrades are, to say the least, significant. The switch to Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 from the previous Ryzen 7 8840U processor will be of great benefit to game performance, where the former uses 12 cores and 24 threads – but that is not the only highlight.
This is not only set to fulfill the desire from a Nintendo DS experience (which, if it was not clear already, is DS for double screen), but it is also intention to give an OLED visual experience; Something that most modern handheld games -PCs don’t have besides a few.
With deeper black levels and fantastic contrast, it is more than enough to give the ideal visual quality of a 7-inch 1080p screen. The addition of 800 Nits Peak brightness is just the icing on me; Throw the endless amount of games that can be played through Steam, Epic Games and other popular lifting rockets, and it’s an easy choice – yes, kind.
I say this because I fully expect this to cost a fortune based on Ayaneo’s usual handheld prices. There is no word about pricing yet, but if like ASUS ROG Ally X or MSI Claw 8 AI+ (which uses weaker processors compared to HX 370) is over $ 700, it should be enough to tell you that the flip 1’s ds will priced most players out.
Analysis: A good compromise for a 7-inch screen
While Flip 1S DS does not specifically scrape my itching from having an affordable, next-in-one 8-inch handheld, it is definitely a major compromise; One that I am tempted to save money for – but only if its price tag is not completely obscene.
I’ve wanted an upgrade from my Asus Rog Ally’s 7-inch screen for a long time, but that doesn’t mean the displays are bad. Don’t get me wrong, a 7-inch screen for handhelds is fantastic and is the sweet place for most users, but can feel a little inadequate, especially if you play competitive.
However, Flip 1S DS gives two screens where one of them is a 1080p OLED, and if you’ve read my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Review, you know I’m a sucker for OLED screens. The performance in play is also not a problem, considering how well we have seen Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 -chip perform in other handhelds like the Onexplayer X1 Pro – Spoiler Alert, it handles demanding games like Black myth: Wukong Pretty good.
If Ayaneo can keep the pricing between $ 800 and $ 999, I can see myself holding out and saving this one, but if the price tag is higher I will probably look elsewhere.
